I'm not exactly sure what is going on but I've sure had an interesting time lately. My husband was laid off in May and our state is at the bottom of the economic heap. So what does one do when one is needed by their parents to help out? His father is in declining health and we are conveniently located next door. If we move, there will be a lot more stress on his mothers high blood pressure.
(Sigh) It is hard to decide what to do. We truly do not wish to move out of state.
This next year I will also be doing something different with our home schooling and I think it will be fun. We will be a part of a very small co-op. Mostly it's to help a couple of friends of mine become more comfortable with their home school endeavor. I'm not certain how everything is going to work out but I'm sure it will. After all, flexibility is the hallmark of the home school.
All of this is on top of the fact that our oldest daughter wishes to return to college. How will the bill get paid? Only the Lord knows, so I guess he has to work it out. I'm out of ideas.
A blessing and a curse:
Since my hubby is multi-talented, he has been recruited by several people to do handy work for them. However, this cuts into job search time. We need the income so he feels compelled to do it but he also needs to search for a job. I'm praying we find a balance that allows him to do this.
It's getting late and I need to get some rest because I have work tomorrow.
G'nite.

New blog
Welcome to my new blog. I know there are many written by home school mom's but I think another one is fine.
I would like to share my home school experiences and hear back from you about your experiences. If you have been doing this for awhile, then you can share your wisdom. If you're new, feel free to ask questions.
I have three children. My oldest is in college. She loves it and is so excited to be there. She wasn't home schooled but recently told me she wishes that we had. It was an option for her but she didn't want to leave the school she had attended since Kindergarten.
When some things changed in our school, I knew I had to do something. Since I knew quite a few people who home schooled and since I've been a teacher for some years, I decided that this was a very viable option for us. I do not think you have to be educated as a teacher to teach at home. In fact, I find that many people who are trained as teachers have a very narrow view on education. The creativity in educating that comes from home schooling is amazing. In fact, I often looked at materials that home school parents were using to get ideas for working with my students at school. It tends to cut out the gobbledy-gook and get to the point. Simplicity is always the preferred method for me.
This year I have taught my 6th and 8th grade children at home. I laugh at how often people ask me how it's going. They do so in hushed tones--as if I may be too fragile from my demanding day of being "locked up" in my house with two adolescents. I just smile and tell them that it is going great! (I find it much easier to teach my own children than to teach theirs.)
I hear a lot from mom's who say that they couldn't spend the whole day alone with their kids. I find that an interesting attitude. I have always done everything I could to spend more time with my children. I know how short the time for our influence is and I intend to make the most of it.
If you home school please check in from time to time. I'll try to blog on a regular basis about my experiences and look forward to reading your posts. By the way, I educate from a Christian point of view so that will be a part of my posts. However, I do not limit my interest to just Christian education materials or points of view.
