Welcome to my new blog. I know there are many written by home school mom's but I think another one is fine.
I would like to share my home school experiences and hear back from you about your experiences. If you have been doing this for awhile, then you can share your wisdom. If you're new, feel free to ask questions.
I have three children. My oldest is in college. She loves it and is so excited to be there. She wasn't home schooled but recently told me she wishes that we had. It was an option for her but she didn't want to leave the school she had attended since Kindergarten.
When some things changed in our school, I knew I had to do something. Since I knew quite a few people who home schooled and since I've been a teacher for some years, I decided that this was a very viable option for us. I do not think you have to be educated as a teacher to teach at home. In fact, I find that many people who are trained as teachers have a very narrow view on education. The creativity in educating that comes from home schooling is amazing. In fact, I often looked at materials that home school parents were using to get ideas for working with my students at school. It tends to cut out the gobbledy-gook and get to the point. Simplicity is always the preferred method for me.
This year I have taught my 6th and 8th grade children at home. I laugh at how often people ask me how it's going. They do so in hushed tones--as if I may be too fragile from my demanding day of being "locked up" in my house with two adolescents. I just smile and tell them that it is going great! (I find it much easier to teach my own children than to teach theirs.)
I hear a lot from mom's who say that they couldn't spend the whole day alone with their kids. I find that an interesting attitude. I have always done everything I could to spend more time with my children. I know how short the time for our influence is and I intend to make the most of it.
If you home school please check in from time to time. I'll try to blog on a regular basis about my experiences and look forward to reading your posts. By the way, I educate from a Christian point of view so that will be a part of my posts. However, I do not limit my interest to just Christian education materials or points of view.
